Detail Design II

10 Credits

The aim of this course is to provide the learner with the skills and knowledge to prepare detail drawings for construction by a contractor. The learner will translate design concepts into specific drawings that are suitable for contractors to accurately cost and construct the design. Technical Services I

10 Credits

The aim of this course is to examine the technical services, environment control and support systems as integral parts of a building. These services provide thermal, sanitary, power, electrical and other essential services that are essential to the comfort, utility and convenience of people who use the building. To be effective these systems need to be designed as an integral part of the building structure.

This course will provide the learner with the necessary awareness of the various visible and often invisible services and systems and their function. This will include investigations into comfort levels (atmosphere, ambience), building access, safety and security. The final learning outcome of this course will raise the awareness of the learner to the specific requirements of people with disabilities, and for the physically challenged, to ensure that they are provided with the opportunity to have easy and safe access and use of buildings and their services.

The course will also provide the learner with the knowledge and skills necessary for them to consult with the various specialists in the proper selection of these technical services. This will enable them as interior designers to better appreciate the direct influence of these services on the interior environment and affect the aesthetic considerations of the space.
