LG Conceptualife Competition 2011

As a joint winner chosen to represent South Africa in the International LG Conceptualife Kitchen competition. I went to Dubai for an amazing three day experience to present my kitchen design to the judges. The 12 other contestants came from the UAE and Africa. As the South African Representative, I received an LG SolarDOM oven from LG.

It was such a great experience to meet interior design students from other countries. It was interesting to see that students from BHC School of design produce a high standard of work. My design was also featured in Visi Magazine, so the exposure gained was invaluable

Tasmin at the Design Achievers Awards 2011

On the 15th June 2011, I was fortunate enough to be flown to Johannesburg for the 25th annual SABS Design Achiever Awards. I was scared out of my wits to embark on this 5 day trip in which designers of all disciplines and places in Africa converge, but to my surprise, the experience ended up being one of the most interesting and memorable ones to date. In the space of 5 days, we attended seminars, lectures and workshops, as well as visiting the Maropeng Exhibition, and the Sterkfontein caves.

The final presentation of our products was to a group of 18 judges to which we individually presented ideas. The final SABS Design Achiever Awards ceremony was held at Freedom Park, where we were all presented with an amazing framed certificate. The experience was an unforgettable one.

Who wants to be a Set-Square???

All interior designers have to continuously meet deadlines. BHC students know all about the pressure when deadlines loom! The staff at BHC School of Design, try to build days into the year planner during which students have fun, relax and get to know one another and have the opportunity to put their creativity to good use.

The second term social event is the 'Who wants to be a set square' quiz, followed by a 'Proudly South African' lunch. The quiz follows the format of the famous TV series, and the competition to answer the questions is fierce!

This year the theme for the teams are based on colour. Each team was allocated a colour to which their clothes and food had to match. The winning teams won prizes sponsored by BHC

Tarquin goes to Milan...

My prize for winning the Formfunc Studio design in second year, was a trip to Italy for the Milan Furniture Fair for a week. The furniture fair was absolutely incredible! There was so much to absorb and learn. The went by so quickly, but the experience was unforgettable. When I got back to college I was so inspired by what I had seen.
