DIPOMA IN INTERIOR DESIGN
ADMISSION PORTFOLIO REQUIREMENTS
Instructions:
Please complete the following tasks to the best of your ability and send it with your application form to BHC School of Design (Pty) Ltd.
DRAWING REQUIREMENTS:
Please draw the following on an A3 paper. You may use any medium for this project. Should you have a portfolio that fits the below criteria, you may send this as an alternative.
You will be expected to demonstrate the following skills:
- The ability to perceive depth from an interior perspective:
Draw an interior perspective (3 dimensional drawing) of any room, e.g. Lounge, showing depth and shading. - The ability to perceive depth from an exterior perspective: Draw an exterior of a two story or higher building, showing depth and shading.
- The ability to render: Draw a still life in colour, e.g. Flower; Fruit; Shoes etc.
- The ability to organise space through the use of scale and proportion: Draw a floor plan (top view) of any room or dwelling indicating windows, doors, walls, furniture and flooring.
QUESTIONNAIRE:
Please answer the following questions:
- Name a South African interior you wish you had designed and give us a reason why you find it special. (Restaurant/ domestic/ office - your choice)
- Name your favourite International interior and give us a reason why you find it special.
(Research in magazines or books) - Which local or international designer do you admire? Explain why they impress you.
- Which three words would you use to describe yourself:
- Which three words would describe your design preferences?
- What three designed objects would you put in your own interior (money plays no role).
- What in your opinion is the difference between Interior Design and Interior Decorating?
- What type of products or interiors do you see yourself designing when you graduate?
HIGHER CERTIFICATE IN INTERIOR DECORATING

You will have to demonstrate the following knowledge, attitudes and values when answering the questionnaire and:
- Apply basic computer skills
- Understand and use English effectively
- Respond to questions in a mature and considered manner
- Understand the scope of interior decorating
- Communicate passion for interior decorating
Please answer the following questions and submit in typed format:
- Name and provide a photograph of a South African interior you wish you had decorated and give us a reason why you find it special. (Restaurant/ domestic/ office - your choice)
- Name and provide a photograph of your favourite international interior and give us a reason why you find it special. (Research in magazines or books)

- Describe your personal style by creating an A3 collage.
